Fab 2 Order manufactured these rail cars for a roller coaster, rail car company. The sheet metal fabrication project was completed through a combination of laser cutting, bending, and welding processes. The job also required secondary processing operations such as deburring, slot and tab assembly, as well as inspection. CNC lasers, press brakes, and MIG welding equipment at our facility enabled us to fabricate these rail cars from 0.188" thick hot-rolled steel. The 47.625" long, 17.841" wide, and 31.012" high rail cars were fabricated to tolerances as close as ± 0.005". The project delivery was critical to the rail car companies customer as the amusement park was to unveil the new style coaster for the Memorial Holiday weekend and there were only 9 weeks to complete the entire replacement of the old rail cars. Only 8 days passed between the new drawings were delivered to Fab 2 Order to quote and process materials for the completion and delivery of the first article for customer inspection and testing on the coaster at the park. Coaster testing indentified design changes necessary and new drawings were submitted to Fab 2 Order. Within 4 days, Fab 2 Order delivered the revised components and the coaster was back to testing. After successful testing, the customer released the design for assembly and Fab 2 Order finished the entire order within time for delivery from the customer to the amusement park. |
